Ace the Case Study Workshop
Case study interviews are becoming increasingly more common in a variety of industries, especially consulting. Candidates who engage in specific preparation and practice are typically the most successful in case study interviews. So attend this session to gain an introduction, get information on how to effectively prepare, and learn about what recruiters look for during these interviews. 

Advanced HireME
This hands-on workshop takes a more in-depth look at HireME, examining many features beyond the basics of registering and searching for jobs covered in the general HireME workshop. During this session, students will have an opportunity to log in to their HireME accounts, and explore individual questions.  Attend this session to increase your understanding of and to utilize the different components of HireME. Topics include:

  • Track your activity in the system
  • Understand the difference between information listed under "referrals" versus that contained under "schedules"
  • Verify you have applied to a job
  • Modify documents after you have already submitted them to a position
  • Decipher job postings to find out timeline information including resume submission deadlines and interview sign-up periods
  • Effectively use the Alumni Network

But I don’t have a Resume!? Strategies for Career Success for the Beginning Professional
This workshop is designed to aid engineering students in writing clear, concise and targeted resumes; and examine how to effectively communicate with potential employers during the initial job search stages. This session focuses on writing clear objective statements, creating reader friendly formats, detailing your experience and skills, utilizing transferable skills, and maintaining professionalism in your communication to employers.

Experience Counts! Co-ops and Internships
What is the difference between a co-op and internship? Why are these experiences important to your college career? How do you find co-op and internship opportunities? If these are some of the questions you’ve been asking, come to this workshop to find out more about co-ops and internships, the similarities and differences between the two, and how to find them.

HireME
HireME is the online recruiting system available to all engineering, computer science, and informatics students and alumni.  This session will show you how to register, search for jobs, and successfully apply for employment opportunities in HireME.  Specific topics include: managing multiple resumes and cover letters, the difference between searching via "Jobs" versus "Schedules", and learning about resume drops and on-campus interviews.

In Pursuit of…Negotiating Workshop
Show me the money, right? Well, wage is just one factor in a number of things to explore before accepting an offer. Attend this workshop to find out how to examine your entire employment offer, and make a well informed decision about accepting a position.  Not only will we examine how to negotiate salary or other aspects of the offer; but we will also discuss managing multiple offers, and explain ethics in negotiating and accepting offers.

It’s all about a Firm Handshake and other Communication Etiquette Practices
Exercising good communication etiquette increases your competitiveness, and can make a difference in securing the job you want! Communication etiquette starts with your cover letter and resume and continues throughout the interview and offer stages. This workshop will give you business appropriate communication strategies you may employ throughout the job search.

No More All Nighters! Transitioning from College to the Workplace
Are you ready for water cooler conversations and life in a cubicle? Before you graduate and start your first job attend this workshop to help ensure you make a successful transition from student to employee.  What are the expectations of new employees? Why do some college grads struggle in their first jobs? How do you communicate well with your boss? We will answer these questions and many more in this workshop aimed at preparing you to be a successful employee!

Now What? After the Career Fair Strategies
You put the suit on, handed out your resumes, and gave your elevator pitch, now what? Communicating with employers does not end with the Career Fair!  This workshop will explore why it is important to communicate with employers after the Career Fair, and explain when and how to successfully follow-up with employers.

Still don’t have a Job Search Strategies Workshop
Are you continuing to look for positions as graduation is getting closer?  Worried about how the economy could impact available positions and looking for ways to diversify your job search? If you answered yes to either question attend this workshop to learn about job search tools other than HireME and Career Fairs, and get some tips on how to STAND OUT to recruiters.  

Tell me about a Time…Behavioral Interviewing Workshop
Increasingly employers rely on the behavioral interview; considered to be more objective, and a better predictor of employee behavior. The behavioral interview is a specific type of interview focusing on how candidates past actions and behaviors predict their future job performance. Attend this workshop to learn more about what to expect in a behavioral interview, how to successfully prepare, and how to expertly answer behavioral interview scenarios.

The Art of Writing a CV
Although often used interchangeably, there are distinct differences between the purpose, content, and format of a resume versus a curriculum vita (CV). This session analyzes the differences between a resume and CV, describes when to use each one, and explores standard formats for each. This workshop is particularly useful for those students who want to or are engaged in the academic or research job search.

The Interview gets YOU the Job: Interviewing Workshop
In career services the saying goes, the resume gets you the interview and the interview gets you the JOB! Interviews are used as screening processes and to assess fit, ultimately identifying successful candidates for positions. Different companies employ different kinds of interviewing, from the standard to the group interview. This workshop will provide an overview of the standard interview formats candidates may encounter. We will also explore what skill sets interviewers assess, get tips on how to prepare for interviews, and learn how to effectively communicate that you are a qualified candidate.

The Power of Networking
People often refer to the value of the hidden job market, but what is it and how do we find it? The answers lie in NETWORKING. Networking is one of the best ways to advance your career and contribute to your professional development; yet many students and professional alike do not know where or how to begin networking. In this workshop we will define networking, explain how it can help your career, and also teach you ways to develop, maintain, utilize and communicate with your network.

Work It! Strategies for Career Fair Success
Long lines, freebies, and lots of students suited up-it can only be one thing, a Career Fair! Career fairs can feel intimidating, particularly because of the crowds, but are powerful networking and job search tools. This workshop will address all aspects of attending a Career Fair including appropriate dress, questions to ask employers, managing time, and how to prepare in order to make the BEST impression with employers.

You and Your Online Identity: Strategies for Managing and Enhancing a Professional Online Self
Increasingly employers utilize the internet, social networking sites, and search engine technology to obtain information on job candidates. Employers also use the web to post jobs, recruit new employees, and obtain professional contacts. This workshop explores what it means to have a professional online identity in the digital age. Participants examine how to manage utilizing a variety of online technologies including social networking sites, professional networking sites, and blogs. Participants are given strategies to build and maintain professional contacts on the web, and are given tips on how to monitor and protect the online image they project. Ultimately, having the right knowledge and tools is essential for managing and enhancing your online self.
